A local business is starting a conversation about how the rise in minimum wage will impact Quinte's business community. Cloud Bookkeeping Services is hosting a free seminar at the Share Centre downtown later this month. Currently, the minimum wage is set at $11.40, but come 2018 it will increase to $14, then $15 the following year. Belleville Chamber of Commerce CEO Jill Raycroft says in a recent chamber survey, 71 per cent of downtown businesses with 20 or fewer employees are already paying above minimum wage. She says the real pressure is ensuring those that receive wage increases have earned them.

Raycroft adds that survey also showed that four per cent of businesses say they might even close.

To learn more, check out the Minimum Wage and How it Affects Small Business Seminar on July 26 from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at 269 Front Street in Belleville. Everyone is welcome.
