The Campbellford Memorial Hospital (CMH) Foundation is thrilled to announce its new Catch the Ace progressive raffle is re-launching. After months of planning in the Spring the Foundation postponed the new fundraising effort due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. Week 1 Draw Tickets are now on sale with the first draw taking place on Thursday, September 17th at 6 p.m.
“We know we made the right decision back in March to postpone the start of the Catch the Ace Raffle”, says Brooke Allan, Chair, CMH Foundation. “Although we are disappointed about the delay we are very excited about finally getting to launch the raffle. The Pandemic really highlighted how technology can be used to efficiently and effectively enhance patient care, especially for rural residents. CMH needs significant community support to bring integrated patient care and health care records into this new age. This raffle will bring excitement to our community during an incredibly challenging time for all of us.”
The progressive raffle that originated in the Maritimes is quickly becoming popular in Ontario. Back in January the CMH Foundation Board of Directors instructed staff to organize its own Catch the Ace Raffle. A lengthy application was submitted to the Ontario Alcohol and Gaming Commission and a license to proceed was issued.
Funds raised through the Catch the Ace Raffle will fund the purchase of new life-saving medical equipment and technology. Currently topping the hospital’s equipment wish list is a new Digital X-Ray Machine, patient beds, telemetry units and a new Clinical information System (CIS).
Weekly $5 tickets for the CMH Foundation’s Catch the Ace Raffle are now available at 20 retailers in the Hospital’s service area, including Campbellford, Warkworth, Hastings, Norwood, Havelock, Springbrook, Stirling, Brighton and Roseneath. Tickets can also be purchased with VISA or Mastercard by calling the CMH Foundation Office at 705-653-1140 ext. 2104.
The first draw is scheduled to take place on Thursday, September 17th at 6 p.m. at the CMH Foundation Office in Campbellford. Draws will continue each Thursday at 6 p.m. until the ace is “caught”. The weekly draws will be live streamed on the Campbellford Memorial Hospital Foundation Facebook page. Ticket sales for the next weekly draw will open right after the weekly draw.
Copies of the full Catch the Ace Rules and Regulations are available at all ticket sales locations and on the CMH Foundation web site, www.givetocmh.ca.

How does it work?
A deck of 52 playing cards is placed into opaque envelopes, one card each, face down. The envelopes are numbered one to fifty-two and are placed in numerical order on a board in a secure, lockable display case. The envelope which contains the Ace of Spades is the ‘Jackpot’ envelope.
Tickets are $5 each and are sold for each weekly draw. The ticket purchaser will include their name, phone number and the chosen envelope number they feel may contain the Ace of Spades. There is one draw at 18:00h on Thursday of every week while the lottery lasts. Only one ticket is drawn each week. The person whose name was drawn wins the weekly prize amount (20% of that week’s ticket sales). After the winning ticket is drawn, the display case is unlocked and the envelope with the number the weekly winner has chosen is removed from the display case and the case is relocked. The envelope is then opened. If the Ace of Spades is not in the selected envelope, the draw continues for another week. The card from the drawn envelope is destroyed. The number on the winner’s ticket is not an eligible number for subsequent draws. So, each week the numbers available for selection are reduced by one number. A sheet is produced each week which shows the numbers that are still in play and are available to choose for the purchased ticket. Anyone can choose any number from those remaining in play so there will always be many holders of the same number. Only the name on the drawn ticket is eligible to win the weekly prize and the chance to Catch the Ace! You do not have to be present to win.
When the Ace of Spades is eventually drawn, the winner is awarded the proceeds from the sale of tickets of the current weekly draw, plus the total rising Progressive Jackpot.
How are the prize amounts determined?
From the $5 ticket price, 20% ($1) goes to the winner whose ticket was drawn for that week. 30% ($1.50) is added to the lottery jackpot carried over from the previous week(s). The remaining 50% ($2.50) goes to the Campbellford Memorial Hospital Foundation to pay for the lottery expenses and to raise the money necessary to replace and enhance our aging medical and capital equipment.
When will the Catch the Ace at CMH begin?
The first draw date for the Campbellford Memorial Hospital Foundation Catch the Ace lottery is Thursday, September 17th, 2020.
