More than 12,000 people have now signed a petition for local Catholic schools to start flying Pride flags.
Last week, trustees with the Peterborough, Victoria, Northumberland and Clarington Catholic District School Board voted against changing its Display of Flags on Board Property policy 4-3.
The petition was started by parent Jewel McDonald, who says she fears students will feel blatantly discriminated against by this decision.
Despite the decision, Chair David Bernier says they welcome and value all students, celebrate diversity and are committed to supporting the 2SLGBTQ+ members in the community. The petition can be foundĀ here.
