Health care workers rallied in Port Hope this week urging Premier Doug Ford to fix what they called a worsening human resources crisis in Ontario’s health care system.
The Northumberland Health Coalition was at the gathering.
Those critical of Ford government policy say the province has to move beyond temporary fixes to stabilize the Personal Support Worker and Nursing sectors.
The announcement of a one-time payment of $5,000 to recruit and retain nurses has been criticized by some as a gimmick.
Proponents of a long-term solution say, it must include the repeal of Bill 124, which generally limits annual salary increases to one per cent for many parts of the public sector in Ontario.
