A new park in Brighton is getting a royal moniker and the municipality wants to gather public input regarding the new name.
The park on Daniels Drive has been named ‘Queen Elizabeth II Park’ in recognition of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee that’s celebrating her 70th anniversary on the throne as Canada’s longest reigning Sovereign.
The municipality is allowing the public an opportunity to provide input into the naming of the park. The purpose of this notice is to provide Brighton residents a fair, consistent, and efficient process for the naming and renaming of any municipal facilities, public buildings, parks, park features, trails and open spaces while respecting the need for public consultation.
The Queen’s reign has been marked by an exceptional series of milestones, said a notice on the park naming on the
Municipality of Brighton website. Her Majesty’s jubilees and birthdays have provided cause for celebration and reflection throughout the remarkable years since her Accession. Such events help reinforce the Queen’s role as a focus for national identity and unity as people across the nation come together to mark an important occasion.
Public comments are being received until June 3. You can submit comments to the Municipal Clerk, Candice Doiron at cdoiron@brighton.ca or by regular mail delivered to 35 Alice Street, PO Box 189, Brighton, ON K0K 1H0.
If you wish to voice your comments to Council there will be an opportunity to do so in person at the Public Council meeting scheduled for June 6 at 6:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers at 35 Alice St. For virtual attendance please preregister with the Municipal Clerk’s Office.
