King Edward Community Park was a decked out in red and white as proud Brightonites participated in the first in-person Canada Day celebration in two years.
Community and volunteer group displays along with members of the Brighton Fire and Rescue, paramedics and OPP celebrated Canada Day with the crowd anxious to see each other outdoors and without masks.
Emceed by Thomas Rittwage, highlights of the official celebrations included Poet Lauraette, Richard Groves shared his new Canada Day poem and Sharon Graham was named Volunteer of the Year.
Mayor Brian Ostrander, and members of council were also on site to welcome the crowd and the opening ceremonies were concluded with the cutting and sharing of the Canada Day cake.
There was also activities taking place at Brighton’s Proctor House museum, which officially began the summer season of tours today too. They celebrated by hosting community craft fair on the grounds of the home and an old-fashion strawberry shortcake social, enjoyed by young and young at heart attendees.
Brightonites are proud Canadians, wearing their red and white attire and many wearing or carrying Canadian flags.
Brighton sends regards to the rest of Canada as we all celebrate the 155th Birthday of Canada!
