Open Mic is the newest edition to the entertainment lineup planned during Applefest weekend. It will take place on Sunday, September 25th from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm in Memorial Park.
“We had a lot of feedback from residents about past events, wanting to have some more entertainment on Sunday in the park too,” said Bruce Tonkin – Entertainment Chair of the Applefest Committee. “We added an Open Mic event and we have 9 performers registered so far – but we have space for another 6 performers, as we can take up to 15 acts.”
Performers are asked to play or sing 2 songs, anything in an unplugged style so that organizers can get everyone registered equal some stage time. Approximately, 10 minutes each.
“R&R will be providing the mics and a place for performers to plug in your guitar and they will also perform some songs throughout the event too,” added Tonkin.
Along with this new Open Mic edition, old favourites will also be returning to the entertainment lineup on Saturday as well.
On Saturday, September 24th, Applefest has booked 4 groups to perform between 9:30 to 4:00 pm. In Memorial Park too. These include the Brighton Brass Quintet, Brighton Concert Band, Bay City Band and the String Match Up.
“Opening ceremonies will be taking place on Saturday as well – starting at 11:00 am with greetings from the Mayor, and we will also have a flyby from the base,” added Tonkin.
Saturday is also parade day and Applefest will have 4 bands performing during the parade including a drumline and pipe band.
After a 2 year hiatus, Applefest organizers are anxious to see this event return and this year’s event has old favorites like the parade, venders market, children’s village, and car show returning along with a few new things too. It’s definitely and all ages, family friendly event.
