Site preparation is underway for Canada’s first grid-scale small modular reactor at the Darlington nuclear plant west of Cobourg.
Early preparation includes bringing in utilities, building roads and tech infrastructure to support the reactor construction.
The new power plant should be online before the end of the decade with expected construction completion in 2028. Ontario’s first new nuclear reactor in a generation is expected to provide enough power to service 300,000 homes.
