You’re invited to celebrate the birth of Robbie Burns with an afternoon of Scottish music and a blend of history, romance and humour during the For Auld Lang Syne event featuring Ian and Sharon Graham.
Sharon Graham gave us the details.
Robert (Robbie) Burns was a Scottish poet and lyricist who was born on January 25th, 1759.
According to Ian Graham, you’ll likely recognize many of his works.
Burns is widely regarded as the national poet of Scotland and is his over 300 songs celebrate love, friendship, work, and drink with often hilarious and tender sympathy, and of course, most famously, the song Auld Lang Syne.
Ian told us what to expect.
In Robbie Burns honour, local performers Ian and Sharon Graham will be performing live music, starting at 2:00 pm at the Trinity St. Andrews United Church located at 36 Prince Edward Street in Brighton. Their Auld Lang Syne event is a fundraiser for Hugs Brighton (Helping Ukrainians Get Settled in Brighton). Sharon and Ian are members of HUGS and are both committed to this cause and are lending their talents to support a cause they are both passionate about.
Hugs Brighton, is a grassroots group formed to help Ukrainian refugees settle in Brighton, and they were recently granted status that allows them to give tax receipts for donations of over $20.
Sharon told us about the ongoing need.
“We won’t have Haggis at this event,” said Ian Graham. “We will have some coffee and tea and of course, shortbread cookies.”
