Elisabeth Rodgers is a budding novelist from Norwood, Ontario. We caught up with her at the Warkworth Fall Fair on the weekend. Elisabeth told us that she’s been writing stories since she was a little girl, but first considered a career in writing based on feedback from a screen writing professor during Rodgers studies at a Film School in Australia. He told her that all great films start with a great novel.
Rodgers told us that she’s technically self-published – she published through a company called Chicken House Press. Elisabeth said she went a route that allowed her to keep full rights on her creative work.
We asked Emily how the trilogy was coming along.
Out of the Darkness weaves Rodgers love of history, specifically the Rome Empire, with wizards, elves and dwarves to create something new, and response has been very positive.
Rodgers has been hitting local libraries and fairs to help promote the first book in the series: “Out of the Darkness”.
It’s the first in a trilogy of fictional novels she has been working on for over six years.
Elisabeth is a self-confessed nerd who told us her reward for the completion of her first novel was a trip to Disney where she was thrilled to be able to visit Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge and have her photo taken in front of the Millennium Falcon.
We asked Rodgers what was next for her.
The Madoc library will host Elisabeth in October and don’t be surprised to see her at fairs around Northumberland County sharing her love for fantasy.
