The Northumberland Expo for Women (NEW) is a remarkable two-day celebration dedicated to the women of Northumberland County and beyond.
NEW is an exceptional gathering, uniting women entrepreneurs, educators, creatives, and more for a dynamic weekend of shopping, networking, learning, and, of course, some delicious food, drinks, and dancing.
Taking place from Saturday, October 14th to Sunday, October 15th, with an Evening Social on October 14th from 7 pm to 11 pm, NEW is the brainchild of Northumberland entrepreneurs Signe Langford (Port Hope Makers’ Market) and Maria Papaioannoy-Duic (Northumberland Women).
Maria told us why NEW was created.
Changing lives is what NEW is all about, and they’re hoping for a domino effect where countless lives can be changed for the better. Their mission is to shine a spotlight on women-owned or -led businesses, showcasing the diverse talents of Northumberland County and beyond.
The theme for NEW’s inaugural event is “Put You First,” emphasizing the importance of self-care for women who often put others before themselves. NEW is designed to give women the attention they deserve.
NEW will feature a stunning art exhibition titled “Women Who Make a Mark,” showcasing various artworks from talented women in Northumberland County.
This exciting event will be hosted at OfficeLinx, located at 115 Toronto Road in Port Hope.
According to Papioannoy-Duic, NEW is all about sharing wisdom, insights, and success stories.
From enlightening workshops to captivating panel discussions, every moment is thoughtfully curated to educate and inspire.
Maria believes that it’s through sharing and support that women are able to overcome their own insecurities and get on the road to success.
Attendees can explore a vibrant marketplace filled with diverse women-owned businesses and artisans selling unique products. Food and drinks will be available on-site, courtesy of Lalies and the Dutch in Cobourg.
Keynote speakers and panel discussions cover a range of fascinating topics:
- Romance Author JC Hannigan will explore the transformative power of romance novels.
- Sarah Truck will tackle the often-taboo subject of financial literacy.
- Jacqueline Pennington will guide you on ascending the property ladder.
- A panel of community leaders will discuss “Women in Politics”.
- Chrisoula Van Oirshcot will delve into goal setting and achievement.
NEW’s featured charity is the Canadian Federation of University Women (CFUW) – Northumberland Chapter, which focuses on educating girls and women to promote equality, human rights, and social justice.
