The Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge District Health Unit (HKPR District Health Unit) wants to help people quit smoking. They’re encouraging residents to join a program called STOP on the Net.
STOP on the Net is part of the Smoking Treatment for Ontario Patients (STOP) Program, funded by the Ontario Ministry of Health. Signing up for this program provides 10 weeks of free nicotine patches and your choice of gum or lozenges delivered to your home. You can also take surveys to track your progress and get more resources to help you quit smoking.
Since the program started in October 2020, around 1,154 residents in the County of Haliburton, the City of Kawartha Lakes, and Northumberland County have joined STOP on the Net. Out of those who filled out follow-up surveys, 31.9% were not smoking after 10 weeks, and 33.8% were not smoking after 6 months.
To participate, you can visit the STOP on the Net website at www.stoponthenet.ca.
