
The Brighton Legion kicked off their Remembrance Day activities on October 27th that will run until November 11th, 2023.
Mayor Brian Ostrander officially kicked off the Poppy campaign by accepting the first poppy of the season on October 27th, 2023.
Poppies are available for sale at the following locations in Brighton until November 11th at:
– Chris and Angela’s No Frills, on Elizabeth Street
– Sobeys on Main Street
– LCBO store on Park Street

The sale of poppies supports several local and national veteran’s aid programs and locally also helps cadets pursue training opportunities.
The Legion has also organized the following activities for Remembrance Day:
– Wednesday, November 8th — The All Star Concert Band is doing a Remembrance Concert. This concert is from 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm at East Northumberland Secondary School (ENSS). There are no tickets, all are welcome. A donation jar will be at the entrance for attendees to make free will donations and the proceeds will support the Brighton Legion’s poppy sales campaign.
Woodcox told us the tradition of an overnight vigil will take place this year.
– Friday, November 10th – the annual candlelight parade and service at the cenotaph. Cadets will doing their overnight vigil in Memorial Park at the Cenotaph. Tea lights for the parade are $2.00 each and will support the Poppy campaign too.
– Saturday, November 11th – The annual march from the Legion to Memorial Park will begin at 10:30 am and the official annual service will begin immediately after at the cenotaph in the park. Open house at the Legion immediately following the service, chili and scones will be served.
According to Kathie, everyone is welcome to gather after the days observances.
