We spoke with musical director Lynda Tonkin to hear more about what students will be looking forward to.
Students will gather in the Terry Fox Auditorium to witness a variety of events. Including the Procession of the Legion’s Colour Guard, videos documentaries about Indigenous Veterans, and musical performances by Razzmajazz the Vocal Class while the names of veterans are depicted on a screen behind them – As well, a performance from Tonkin herself. Remembrance Day 2023 carries with it the uncomfortable burden of coinciding with active wars in other countries. Tonkin, another resident who grew up with Remembrance Day events in school, says students are privileged to learn about it now.
This year also marks the first time Lynda Tonkin will direct the event.
The Remembrance Day assembly takes place on Friday, November 10th.
