The Government of Ontario is supporting Ed’s House Northumberland Hospice Care Centre achieve the team’s original goal.
As part of Ontario’s “Your Health: A Plan for Connected and Convenient Care” plan, the government is expanding access to palliative care services in Northumberland County. The Government is investing $283,000 to Ed’s House Hospice to expand the centre’s current six-bed facility, in addition to providing $609,200 for four new beds.
We spoke with CEO of Community Care Northumberland, Trish Baird, about the investment.
“Ed’s House is the culmination a monumental community effort and Premier Ford and I are so proud to support the expansion of this incredible place,” said MPP David Piccini. “We are investing this much needed funding to provide sustainability and more beds, so our loved ones have the care they need.”
In the last year Ed’s House has hosted more than 500 clients and over 140 residents and their families through 24/7 end-of-life care at no cost to the client. During the announcement, family of previous patients were invited on the panel to share their experience.

A portion of this funding will be used to connect people to more palliative and end-of-life services across Ontario. In addition to expanding palliative care services across Ontario, the investment will provide existing hospice beds in Cobourg with over $893,000 in additional funding over the next two years. This will increase funding by 45 per cent for all approved hospice beds in Ontario.
Baird says this all highlights the importance of Ed’s House to the community.
