The Santa Sacs for Seniors committee has been working hard to prepare sacs filled with holiday cheer for local seniors in long term care and for those who are alone during the holiday season.
“We switched to the creation of Santa sacs so that seniors with mobility issues can better hang on to them as they unpack the goodies inside,” said Lynn Gladman – a member of the committee.
The committee is planning for 350 sacs that will be distributed at Mapleview and Applefest along with some to Community Care clients, to give a little Christmas cheer to those who might otherwise be alone during the holiday season. Ornaments and plaques are also being made by local schoolchildren to include in this year’s sacs.
It’s not too late to get involved and donations of:
– large print, word search and puzzle books
– face cloths or hand towels
– wall and pocket calendars
– night lights and flashlights
– disposable razors and shaving cream
– highlighters, pencils, pens, pencil crayons and stationery products
– bath, body washes and lip balms (gently scented only)
– brushes, combs, shampoo and conditioners
– Kleenex and or wipes
– Gloves, scarves or socks
– Candies, cookies, chocolate
– Small table top games
– Small fluffy stuffed animals
– Peel and pictures for walls
Donations are being accepted until December 10th, 2023 at the following locations:
– Just Like Granny’s Bakery,
– Body & Sole
– No Frills
– Birdhouse
– Northumberland Fine Foods, and
– Brighton Public Library
