Keeping everyone safe on the roads and getting you and your vehicle home is the sole purpose of Operation Red Nose (ORN) which will wrap up operations this year on New Years Eve.
Founded in 1984, “Opération Nez rouge” began in Canada in the province of Quebec, offering an escort service during the Christmas holiday season. It’s not a taxi service – you must have your own car. A call to the Northumberland ORN call centre (905) 377-1218 gets the process started. Upon receiving your call, a team of three volunteers will be dispatched to your location. One volunteer will drive your car, one acts as a navigator, and the third follows behind to pick them up for the next run.

We caught up with Thomas Buick GMC’s Lara Campbell who took on the role of co-chair this year.
Campbell told us their support started with their staff.
It seems that getting together for the holidays and the spirit of giving back to the community are both seeing an uptick according to Campbell.
While the service is free, donations are gratefully accepted on behalf of the YMCA’s Strong Communities Campaign. Lara told us that you don’t need to make any special plans, just give them a call.
So remember, celebrate the new year the right way, by staying off the roads if you’ve been drinking or don’t feel fit to drive.
