Community Care Northumberland’s (CCN) Easter cookie boxes are making a comeback in support of CCN’s Meals on Wheels program, which has helped thousands of residents over the years.
CCN has announced its Easter cookies for Meals on Wheels is set to launch Friday, March 1.
March also marks March for Meals and National Nutrition Month – pivotal moments for CCN to advocate for the significance of its Meals on Wheels program, says CCN.
“The cookie fundraiser and March for Meals initiative are essential components in meeting the nutritional requirements of our clients and community, simultaneously amplifying awareness about this invaluable program,” says Trish Baird, chief executive officer of CCN.
CCN delivers about 3,000 meals monthly to Northumberland residents.
In other words, these cookies are more than just a sweet treat.
Each $20 box contains five individually wrapped and beautifully decorated cookies from Roda’s Kitchen, notes CCN. The proceeds will help provide frozen and hot meal deliveries throughout Northumberland – for every box sold, $8 will be directed to the Meals on Wheels program, explains CCN.
Area politicians, volunteers and others will also join CCN for its 27th anniversary of March for Meals this year, demonstrating their support by delivering meals as “Community Champions” to clients, says CCN.
Order pickups will be available from CCN offices in Brighton, Campbellford and Cobourg on March 27 or 28. Orders can be placed via www.commcare.ca between March 1 and 18.
CCN’s Meals on Wheels programs centres around healthy and affordable meal options. Residents can choose hot meals, which are prepared locally and delivered several times weekly at noon hour – or frozen meals, which are easy to prepare and cater to several diet types, explains CCN.
The program is powered by volunteers and staff who deliver meals right to folks’ doors.
In 2022-23 alone, more than 40,420 meals were delivered to 630-plus residents in the county.
