The 24th edition of the Quinte Trash Bash is making a return on Saturday, April 20.
Residents can get involved in the annual event and help “keep Quinte green” by cleaning up local streets, parks and other outdoor spaces, say organizers.
Guidelines for a safe cleanup in 2024 are available and downloadable online.
Here’s what you need to know:
The trash bash is a community-wide spring cleanup/challenge covering Quinte West, Belleville, the Township of Tyendinaga, and Prince Edward County.
And if you’re eager to “bash some trash,” residents only need to take note of a few easy steps, say organizers.
This includes registering online and choosing an area where folks want to pick up litter.
Registering helps identify areas that are cleaned and the number of participants.
Participants can pick up litter from parks, green spaces, sidewalks and more on the big day, or any day leading up to April 20.
Supply kits (bags and gloves) will be available at designated “trash bash” stations on the event day. Supplies can also be picked up in advance for those looking to handle cleanups earlier.
Collected garbage can be dropped off at the stations April 20 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Items considered too big or too dangerous to haul should not be touched. Rather, people should take note of the location and let organizers know, and they’ll arrange pickup.
High school students needing volunteer hours can also register for the cleanup and log volunteer hours.
In 2023, the Quinte Trash Bash made a serious dent as participants worked to save the planet one piece of trash at a time, note organizers.
Garbage amounting to 1.24 tonnes in Belleville, 1.72 tonnes in Quinte West, 3.97 tonnes in Tyendinaga, and 4.4 tonnes in Prince Edward County was picked up. This means total garbage off the streets translated to 11.33 tonnes.
The hope is participation will grow this year, and more litter will be picked up.
People can visit www.quintetrashbash.ca for more information on pre-registration, supply kit pickup, and drop-off locations on the day of.
