Federal Finance Minister Christia Freeland delivered the $535M budget on April 16 focused on creating more affordable homes, lowering everyday costs and economic growth for every generation.
We asked MP Lawrence for his reaction to today’s federal budget.
He told us the government continuing to raise taxes will ultimately make life less affordable for Canadians.
Lawrence said we’re facing a lost decade with no economic growth for the last ten years based on GDP per person.
Bay of Quinte MP Ryan Williams said he was disappointed as he believes it’s the government’s high spending that has led to high inflation and high interest rates.
MP Williams says, “Unfortunately this Liberal governments addiction to spending means that high inflation and high interest rates will persist and that is hurting Canadians the most. This current government shows no fiscal restraint in spending.”
MP Lawrence shared one of the most asked questions he faces when at his riding office in Northumberland is about affordability.
Lawrence says the affordability crisis is hitting hard and home in Northumberland Peterborough South and this budget “does nothing to relieve that burden.”
