Earth Day was initially celebrated on April 22, 1970, marking the inception of the environmental movement. It has since evolved into the largest participatory environmental movement on the planet.
Warden Brian Ostrander says the importance of Earth Day is irrefutable as the evidence of humanity’s impact on the environment has never been easier to see.
Ostrander says we need to be conscious of what we’re doing and our impact on the environment as we’re seeing the effects of human impact on a regular basis.
Today is a day to consider your impact on the environment and what you can do every day to make a difference, whether it’s walking more, recycling more or reducing food waste – every bit helps.
According to Ostrander, warmer temperatures are having an impact close to home – particularly on our infrastructure.
Ostrander says it’s everyone responsibility to consider the environment and that’s why Earth Day is so important, but at the end of the day, Earth Day, needs to be every day.
