Northumberland OPP say they’ve charged a Brighton resident with failure or refusal to comply with a demand after a 36-year-old resident allegedly refused to provide a breath sample.
On Tuesday, police issued a release saying the charge stemmed from an alleged incident back on Friday, April 26, at about 8:25 p.m. Police said they responded a report of a vehicle on Ontario Street in Brighton and that the driver “may be experiencing difficulty.”
Officers said they located the vehicle nearby and conducted a traffic stop.
Upon speaking with the driver, police said they determined the driver to be under the influence of alcohol. OPP made a breath demand into an approved screening device (ASD) but allege the driver failed to comply.
As a result, police said a 36-year-old Brighton resident was charged with failure or refusal to comply with demand.
This charge has not been proven in court.
The accused had their driver’s licence suspended for 90 days and the vehicle was impounded for seven days, reported OPP.
