Quinte West OPP say two young people are facing charges after a stolen vehicle was recovered and a subsequent search of the vehicle allegedly turned up various items, including a replica firearm.
On Wednesday, May 1, police issued a release saying two young people were charged after high speeds attracted attention to a stolen pick-up truck.
The alleged incident happened during the early morning hours of Tuesday, April 30, when officers said they noted a black pick-up truck travelling at a high rate of speed in the City of Quinte West.
A check of the licence plate determined the vehicle was reported stolen from Brampton, said police.
Officers said they safely stopped the truck without incident or damage and arrested two young people.
According to police, a search of the vehicle found various items, including a key fob with a blank back-up key and a replica firearm, made to appear identical to a Glock 9 millimetre handgun.
Police said the accused parties were charged with possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000; carrying a concealed weapon; possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and possessing automobile master key.
The driver of the vehicle was also charged with speeding 1 to 49 km/h over posted limit, and drive motor vehicle – no licence, reported OPP.
The passenger was additionally charged with failure to properly wear a seat belt.
None of these charges have been proven in court.
Both accused are scheduled to appear in Belleville court later, said police.
Police provided no other details.
