Cobourg police say a 62-year-old man is facing assault with weapon charges after an alleged incident involving a piece of wood and a compound bow.
The Cobourg Police Service issued a release on Wednesday, May 1, 2024, saying the evening prior, at about 8:30 p.m., police responded to a call for an assault in the King Street East and Cottesmore Avenue area.
“It was reported that a man (allegedly) struck a victim with a ‘2×4’ piece of wood before retrieving a compound bow and making threats,” said police. “The man surrendered the bow to bystanders on the scene.”
The victim suffered minor injuries, reported police.
Police said they recovered both weapons.
As a result of an investigation, a 62-year-old Cobourg man was arrested and charged with two counts of assault with a weapon. The accused was held for a show cause hearing later Wednesday, said police.
Police provided no other details.
