If being around birds lifts your spirits, Presqu’ile Provincial Park is the place to be this Saturday and Sunday.
Taking place during the Victoria Day Weekend in May, this special event commemorates the spring migration of various bird species, including Warblers and shorebirds like the Whimbrel, as they make their way north and stop at Presqu’ile. Situated on a peninsula jutting into the lake, Presqu’ile’s diverse habitats make it a prime spot for bird migration.
During this time, migrating birds gather in the park, offering birdwatchers an excellent opportunity to observe a wide array of species as they rest and feed before continuing their journey northward.
While the number of birds in the park may vary from day to day, May always promises sightings and experiences for bird enthusiasts.
Bev Cook with Friends of Presqu’ile tells us Warblers and Whimbrels Weekend celebrates the return of the song and shorebirds.
There will also be bird-banding demonstrations both days, an opportunity for you to see the birds up close.
Cook says the Lighthouse Interpretive Centre will be a gathering point.
By the numbers Cooks says it’s been a good year for bird migration at Presqu’ile.
Saturday and Sunday the Friends of Presqu’ile Gift Shop will be open and there’s a fundraising barbecue lunch both days from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm.
