On May 31, 2024, at around 3:30 a.m., the Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a public complaint about unknown individuals with a vehicle on Ganaraska Road in Port Hope. Officers patrolled the area and spotted a vehicle matching the caller’s description. After stopping the vehicle and speaking with the driver, they initiated an impaired operation investigation. An Approved Screening Device (ASD) was used, leading to the arrest of the driver.
A 30-year-old from Oshawa, was charged with operation while impaired by alcohol and drugs, having a blood alcohol concentration over 80, being a novice driver with a BAC above zero, failing to surrender a licence, insurance card, and vehicle permit. The accused’s licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle impounded for seven days.
