The EV Society-Northumberland Chapter and Sustainable Cobourg are hosting a free EV & Sustainability Event on Sunday, June 9, from 10 am to 4 pm at Northumberland Mall’s north parking lot, between Boston Pizza and LCBO.
The event will feature a display of electric vehicles (EVs) from owners and local dealers, with opportunities for test drives through participating dealerships. Sustainable Cobourg members will provide information on their community vision and activities, which can also be found on their website at www.sustainablecobourg.ca.
Chapter Lead David Kuhnke tells us it’s about more than just electric cars.
Kuhnke says the whole objective is to reduce greenhouse gases and make a difference in battle against climate change.
Representatives from the Federal and Provincial Governments, Northumberland County, and Cobourg Town Council are also invited. The event aims to highlight how electrification of the transportation system and other sustainable practices can help mitigate climate change by reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
Kuhnke tells us they’ll have lots of folks on-hand to answer questions.
Kuhnke confirmed that Lauria Group plans to attend with 3 Hyundais and a Volkswagen and Thomas Buick GMC will have a Hummer there as well.
According to Kuhnke, there are some very compelling reasons to consider electric.
If you can’t make it out to the event, or you’d just like to learn more about EVs, Kuhnke also told us they’ll be hosting a panel discussion/webinar with reps from OPG, Hydro One, IESO and local distribution companies (Hydro One & Lakefront Utilities) on Wednesday, June 19 at 7:00pm entitled “Can the Grid Handle it?” The webinar will explain the specific steps & projects each of the partner agencies are responsible for to ensure the grid can handle the electrification of everything”.
