The heat warning and extended heat warning alerts issued earlier this week for Northumberland ended effective Friday.
The Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge District Health Unit advised the alerts ended effective Friday morning for Northumberland and Haliburton counties, and the City of Kawartha Lakes, while citing Environment Canada forecasting conditions that no longer meet heat warning criteria.
However, while the extreme heat warning has ended, public health continues to recommend taking precautions in hot weather to avoid heat-related illness.
Such precautions include drinking plenty of water to stay hydrated, keeping indoor spaces cool, avoiding direct sunlight and long periods in the heat whenever possible, and checking in on your friends, neighbours and family to ensure they are staying cool and hydrated.
Extreme heat can be dangerous. Knowing how to prepare for the next heat warning can help you stay safe and healthy, added officials.
