Northumberland United Way has initiated its annual “Backpacks for Kids” campaign, a cornerstone program dedicated to providing essential school supplies to children in need.
Now celebrating its 19th year, this campaign has been a vital support system for local families since 2005. This year, the organization says they’ve seen a significant increase in requests for assistance from community partners and individuals, which makes community support for this essential program so important.
Alicia Vandine, Executive Director at Northumberland United Way, highlights the program’s impact: “Our goal is to support and empower families, ensuring no child feels left behind as they embark on a new school year.”
To meet this increased demand, the organization aims to raise $25,000. The campaign not only supplies backpacks but also collaborates with other children-focused partners to create a comprehensive support network for local families.
Two community events are planned to raise awareness: Touch-A-Truck Cobourg on July 12 and Touch-A-Truck Port Hope on July 19.
Donations can be made online at www.mynuw.org or in person at the United Way office in Cobourg. “Every backpack donated represents a child equipped with the tools to succeed,” adds Vandine.
