The Colborne Art Gallery, an artist-run cooperative featuring 12 talented artists, will launch its latest exhibition, “Pathways,” this Thursday.
The show, which runs until September 8, includes a diverse range of works, such as paintings, printmaking, photography, jewellery, and sculpture, created by the gallery’s members. The exhibition aims to build awareness and accessibility to contemporary visual arts, fostering a vibrant cultural scene in Northumberland County.
A highlight of the “Pathways” exhibition is the feature show “Maelstroms and Auras” by Charles Funnell in Gallery Room 3. An award-winning silversmith, Funnell’s work explores themes of energy, transformation, and the mysterious forces that surround us.
Funnell tells us more about some of the pieces you can expect to see.
Funnell’s pieces, some developed over many years, reflect his innovative approach and deep engagement with his craft. He shares with us the inspiration for “Maelstroms and Auras.”
According to Funnell, many of the pieces were developed over the pandemic, which found many of us in isolation and Maelstrom seems a fitting way to describe the journey many of us had during that time.
The gallery invites the public to the opening reception on July 13, from 2-4 pm, to view these exceptional works and meet the artists. By seeking the widest possible audience, the Colborne Art Gallery supports local artists and contributes significantly to the cultural life of the community.
Located in the charming historic village of Colborne, Ontario, the gallery is housed in a heritage building modernized for showcasing contemporary visual arts. With ongoing support from the Cramahe Township Council and local groups, the gallery continues to thrive as a cultural hub, offering free admission Thursday through Sunday from noon to 4 p.m.
