The Community Training and Development Centre (CTDC) is set to receive $723,035 from the Ontario government to train new workers in health, social, and children’s services.
Funded by the Skills Development Fund and managed by the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development, this project aims to create career pathways in these critical sectors. CTDC CEO Madelaine Currelly says the program will allow workers to gain a diverse skill set – meaning they can have more flexibility in their field.
“It is imperative that we support clear pathways into in-demand careers in health, social and children’s services as they are such an integral part of supporting our community,” said MPP David Piccini, Minister of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development. GoNorthumberland.ca caught up with Piccini after the announcement. He says having multi-faceted workers will benefit greatly, specifically mentioning its perks for seniors in need of healthcare.
The Community Training and Development Centre’s new cross-functional training program focuses on human development, understanding vulnerable populations, professional ethics, and essential workplace skills. The program includes a 20-day online training component followed by work experience in relevant sectors. It aims to support 100 participants seeking meaningful careers in high-demand fields. Piccini talks about the demographic.
“The Community Training and Development Centre is grateful for the support and recognition by the Ministry,” said Currelly.
