The highly anticipated HBO Max series “Welcome to Derry” will take fans back to the origins of Pennywise, the demonic clown from Stephen King’s “It” universe.
The series, set for a 2025 release, acts as a prequel to Andy Muschietti’s acclaimed films, “It” and “It Chapter Two,” and is set in 1960s Derry, Maine. With filming concluded in Port Hope earlier this month, the teaser trailer has stirred excitement by promising a deeper exploration of the town’s terrifying past and Pennywise’s enigmatic origins.
Bill Skarsgård is set to reprise his role as Pennywise, despite earlier speculation about his involvement, and will also serve as an executive producer.
The series boasts a fresh, younger cast, though their roles remain under wraps. While Stephen King never penned a prequel, the show will present an original storyline crafted to expand the chilling lore of Derry’s supernatural predator.
Producer Jason Fuchs, who announced the completion of filming, has hinted at thrilling developments, with the series aiming to capture the essence of fear and mystery that made the original “It” films so compelling.
As fans await further plot details and a full trailer, “Welcome to Derry” promises to be a haunting journey into Pennywise’s dark legacy.
