A Warkworth resident who’s been playing the lottery since the 90s has won his first big jackpot.
Rodney Boswell, who works in construction, went ‘all in’ to win recently in the Poker Lotto All In jackpot worth $69,244.40 — he then also won $5,000 on the instant portion of his Poker Lotto play, bringing his total winnings to $74,244.40, OLG recently announced.
According to an OLG release, Boswell has been playing the lottery since 1994 — this is his first big win.
“When my ticket printed at the store, I thought I had won $100,” recalled Boswell, while at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto to pick up his winnings. “Then, the lottery terminal froze and the prize amount appeared on the screen.
“The store clerk said, ‘I think you won the jackpot!’ I took a closer look at the screen and said, ‘OMG! It is the jackpot! I was so shocked and excited in that moment. I never expected a win like this!”
Boswell then shared the news with his loved ones.
“My family kept saying, ‘No way! Good for you.’ They were all so happy for me,” he shared.
With his windfall, Boswell plans to invest in his retirement.
“It’s hard to explain what it feels like to win the lottery,” he admitted, with a smile. “It’s like a rush of excitement!”
The winning ticket was purchased at Circle K on Wellington Street in Aurora.
