A blaze that engulfed a home on County Road 2 in Brighton is estimated to have caused close to half-a-million dollars in damages.
As previously reported, emergency crews responded in force just before 5 a.m. last Thursday, Aug. 22, 2024, to the County Road 2 home between Huff Road and Rundle Lane.
Crews were on the scene pretty quick — but the home was already engulfed in flames, noted Brighton Fire and Rescue Chief Gene Thompson.
In addition to Brighton fire, Cramahe fire answered the call for mutual aid and Trent Hills for standby — Northumberland EMS and OPP also responded.
Capt. Adam McCurdy was first on the scene the morning of the blaze.
“Upon arrival, the house was fully involved, so it was not safe for crews to make entry into the home, but they did a phenomenal job knocking down the fire the best they could,” he told Oldies at the scene.
The home was reduced to rubble — a complete loss. A few vehicles also went up in flames.
Regarding the cause of the fire, on Thursday, Aug. 29, Thompson said: “It’s undetermined at this point.”
“Everything was so consumed,” he noted.
In response to inquiries around damage estimates due to the blaze, Thompson estimated damages around close to half-a-million dollars.
No one was inside during the fire — however, as previously reported, one person nearby was sent to hospital as a precaution last week.
Like McCurdy, Thompson has commended crews and area partners for their quick action and response to the fire.
“We work really well with Trent Hills and Cramahe fire departments … and then as well, our OPP and EMS. As a county, we’re probably one of the top in the province for working together,” added Thompson.
