A Trenton resident is facing an attempted murder charge after an alleged stabbing, say police.
In an update on Thursday, Sept. 5, 2024, Quinte West OPP said officers made an arrest in connection with a serious assault earlier this week.
As previously reported, OPP said officers were called to an apartment on King Street shortly after 10:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2024.
A 34-year-old man was found with stab wounds and transported by Hastings Quinte Paramedics to a regional trauma centre, reported police.
The suspect in the incident had allegedly fled the scene, and despite an “extensive search of the area,” involving Quinte West officers, the emergency response unit and canine unit, the individual was not found.
In their initial release earlier in the day Wednesday, police said an arrest warrant was being sought for a 38-year-old man.
In their Thursday update, police said later Wednesday, Sept. 4, Quinte West officers and members of the OPP’s crime unit located and arrested the accused.
As a result of the investigation, police said Justin Lyons, 38, was charged with attempt to commit murder and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
None of these charges have been proven in court.
On Thursday, police said the accused remained in custody, with a bail hearing scheduled before the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville.
No other details were released by police.
In their initial release, police referred to the assault as targeted, saying they did not believe there to be a risk to public safety.
