More than $78,000 worth of contraband and unauthorized items were recently seized at Warkworth Institution, say officials.
Correctional Service Canada (CSC) is once again crediting staff for their vigilance following the seizure of a package back on Sept. 1, 2024, at the medium-security federal institution.
Officials said the contraband and unauthorized items seized included marijuana, tobacco and edged weapons.
“The total estimated institutional value of this seizure is $78,150,” the CSC is now reporting.
A number of tools continue to be used to prevent drugs from entering institutions, reiterated officials, adding such tools include ion scanners and drug-detector dogs to search buildings, personal property, inmates and visitors.
Correctional Service Canada is also continuing to heighten measures to prevent contraband from entering its institutions in order to help ensure a safe and secure environment for all, reads a recent release.
Work in partnership with police to take action against those who attempt to introduce contraband into facilities also continues.
A telephone tip-line for all federal institutions also remains in place, where people can share information about activities relating to security at institutions. The toll-free number — 1‑866‑780‑3784 — helps ensure that the information shared is protected and that callers remain anonymous, added officials.
