The Belleville Police Service say they’ve identified Melissa McGiffin, 40, as the cyclist tragically killed in a collision on Dundas Street West near Avonlough Road on September 12, 2024.
According to police, emergency services, including Hastings-Quinte Paramedics, were dispatched to the scene at 4:30 a.m., where McGiffin was struck by a vehicle. Despite efforts to save her, she was pronounced dead at Belleville General Hospital.
The driver involved remained at the scene and fully cooperated say police. An investigation was launched involving the Belleville Police Traffic Safety Unit and the Forensic Identification Unit, though no charges are expected at this time.
The Belleville Police Service has expressed its deepest condolences to McGiffin’s family and friends during this difficult time.
