
A 27-year-old Quinte West resident is facing an attempted murder charge after police say they responded to a shooting report.
On Thursday, Oct. 31, 2024, Quinte West OPP said the victim was in hospital with injuries described as life-threatening, while confirming an individual had been arrested and charged in connection with an alleged attempted murder.
According to police, on Thursday, at about 2 a.m., members of the Quinte West OPP, Quinte West fire and emergency medical services (EMS), alongside the OPP’s emergency response team (ERT), canine unit, Quinte West crime unit and forensic identification services (FIS), responded to the area of Belleville Street in Frankford, when a shooting was reported.
“The victim sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported to a regional trauma centre for treatment,” reported OPP, on Thursday morning.
Officers allege they located the accused a short distance away, where he was arrested.
Police said a 27-year-old from Quinte West was charged with: Attempt to commit murder, discharge firearm with intent, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and pointing a firearm.
None of these charges have been proven in court.
The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville, reported OPP.
Police said the individual’s name cannot be released until the charges are heard in court.
No other details were provided by police.
