Quinte West OPP have released the name of the accused in connection with an alleged attempted murder in Frankford and an update on charges.
As previously reported by police, on Thursday, Oct. 31, 2024, at about 2 a.m., emergency crews – including OPP, fire, EMS, members of the emergency response team, canine and crime units, as well as forensic identification services – responded to the Belleville Street Frankford area after an alleged shooting was reported.
Police said the victim sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported to a trauma centre.
Officers said they arrested one person located a short distance away.
On Friday, Nov. 1, 2024, police said as a result of the investigation, Mitchell Barink, 27, of Frankford, was charged with the following Criminal Code offences: Attempt to commit murder using firearm, discharge firearm with intent, and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
None of these charges have been proven in court.
OPP also said their probe is continuing under the direction of its criminal investigation branch.
The accused remains in custody and is scheduled to appear for a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville on Monday, Nov. 4, 2024, said police, on Friday.
