Correctional Service Canada (CSC) is once again crediting staff for their vigilance after more than $516,000 worth of contraband and unauthorized items were seized at Warkworth Institution.
According to CSC, multiple seizures of packages took place between Oct. 12 and 29. Items seized included marijuana, tobacco, shatter (cannabis concentrate), drug paraphernalia, cellphones and cellphone accessories, reported officials.
The total estimated institutional value of the seizures is coming in at $516,095, said officials.
CSC officials are once reiterating that heightened measures remain in place and that a number of tools, such as ion scanners and drug-detector dogs, continue to also be utilized to prevent drugs from entering institutions.
Work is ongoing in partnership with police to take action against those who attempt to introduce contraband into institutions, added officials.
Correctional Service Canada also has a telephone tip-line set up where information relating to security can be shared.
The toll-free number – 1-866-780-3784 – helps ensure that the information shared is protected and that callers remain anonymous, stressed officials.
