Brighton council has given its consent for rezoning land on Georgina Street near Dundas for a future 250-plus-bed long-term care facility.
Mayor Brian Ostrander tells us 49 beds of an existing facility (Maplewood) slated to be closed will be folded into the new project.
Ostrander says there are a couple of other facilities in the Prince Edward County area that will close as well.
Ostrander says it’s now in the hands of municipal staff.
Based on the little feedback the community has given concerning the proposal, Ostrander says he believes residents support the project.
