Brighton council has deferred declaring a seat vacancy until Dec. 9. At issue is replacing the late Byron Faretis, who passed away away in November.
Mayor Brian Ostrander tells us a decision on what method council uses to replace Faretis has been deferred until Dec. 16.
There are several options. Council can solicit applications for the position, appoint an interim councillor to see out the term, appoint the person who finished closest to Faretis in the last municipal election or hold a byelection.
