Held at Victoria Hall on Saturday, the levee drew a packed hall.
The mayor’s levee is a long-standing tradition, serving as a public reception hosted by the mayor and council to mark the beginning of a new year. The event provides an opportunity for residents to meet the mayor, council members, and other community leaders in an informal setting.
Mayor Lucas Cleveland credits work by fellow council members and staff for the great turn out.
At the Levee, Cleveland reflected on Cobourg’s achievements in 2024 and outlined an optimistic vision for the year ahead. He highlighted the town’s receipt of nearly $40 million in combined federal and provincial funding, including a historic $25-million grant for water infrastructure and $5 million for harbour repairs. Cleveland attributed these successes to the proactive advocacy of Council and senior town staff.
For Cleveland, Saturday’s levee marked his third year as host.
Looking ahead, Cleveland noted key infrastructure projects, such as Anne Street reconstruction and the William Street Bridge rehabilitation, as well as continued support for police, fire, and town staff. He lauded the town’s spirit of generosity, resilience, and kindness, urging residents to reject negativity and embrace hope and compassion.
The Cobourg Concert Band and SONG – Sounds of the Next Generation, capped off the event providing entertainment in Victoria Hall’s Concert Hall.
Cleveland says he was very pleased to see such a great turn out.
Popcorn and refreshments helped create a carnival atmosphere for this family fun event that also featured an address by Town Crier Mandy Robinson to ring in the new year.
