Brighton council will be welcoming a new face around the horseshoe after a special meeting Friday, Jan. 24, 2025.
After hearing from nine candidates, a majority of council has decided on life-long resident Hannah MacAusland, 22, to fill a seat previously declared vacant following the passing of former Coun. Byron Faretis last year.
Despite previous plans to officially swear-in the successful candidate on Feb. 3, MacAusland is now set to take her oath of office and be formally appointed at council’s planning meeting on Monday, Jan. 27, 2025.
It’s believed MacAusland will be the youngest person ever to serve on Brighton council. MacAusland will take on the role of councillor for the remainder of the 2022-26 term.
More still to come on this story.
