The Trenton Memorial Hospital ER expansion is getting a half-a-million-dollar boost after the fourth annual O’Quinn Team Kitchen Party.
Held at the National Air Force Museum of Canada on Jan. 25, 2025, the fourth annual bash brought the community together in the spirit of Newfoundland’s cherished tradition, said the Trenton Memorial Hospital Foundation, while announcing the event raised a net $500,000 in support of the emergency room expansion project.
“This extraordinary achievement showcases the profound impact that passionate individuals and dedicated teams can have on healthcare in our community,” said Lindsay Butcher Dodds, executive director of the hospital foundation. “On behalf of the foundation, I extend my deepest gratitude to Lorraine, Tom, the O’Quinn Team, volunteers, and every supporter of this event.
“Your unwavering commitment and generosity are not only transforming lives today but also building a healthier and stronger future for Trenton Memorial Hospital.”
Attendees filled the museum for an evening of music, connection and unity in support of the ER expansion, which hospital staff say will improve patient flow, infection control and space for vulnerable patients, all the while helping to tackle growing numbers in the ER.
The latest data points to 35,000 annual ER visits, with patient numbers continuing to climb.
As previously reported, the envisioned expansion is supposed to translate to about 6,000 square feet undergoing renovations and an additional 1,000 square feet added to TMH to create a new state-of-the-art ER.
Husband-and-wife Tom and Lorraine O’Quinn are described as proud Newfoundlanders – and Newfoundlanders have always leaned into their sense of community, said Lorraine, the main event organizer.
“On Saturday, we carried that spirit forward with hope, determination, and love for each other. Together, we turned a dream into a reality.”
Lorraine is sending out a huge round of thanks to sponsors, auction donors, attendees and volunteers – in particular, the dedicated committee and her family.
“Thank you for making this night so beautiful. This success wouldn’t have been possible without you,” she said.
Fundraising efforts are ongoing for the expansion. Visit the TMHF website to learn more.
