For retired OPP staff sergeant Glenn Irving serving has long been a part of his life.
And he continues to serve today as president of the Royal Canadian Legion Brighton Branch 100.
The legion is described as Canada’s largest veterans’ service organization.
Most residents know the legion is dedicated to supporting veterans and their families and Canadian Armed Forces’ members, promoting remembrance, and about the annual poppy campaigns, but there’s a lot more to the legion, including when it comes to serving thousands locally and the greater community, says Irving.
In Brighton, the legion has served as a hub for veterans and the community in its current location for more than 90 years. But now, Irving and his fellow legionnaires are on to their next mission: They want a new home and to build for the future.
However, they’ll need the community’s help to carry on the legion’s legacy and achieve this dream of a more modern, accessible new home to meet a growing community’s needs.
In this podcast below, Irving tells us more about what the legion stands for, its impact in the community, and the dream for the future.
