Restoration efforts are in progress at Golden Plough Lodge following a fire that broke out yesterday in a resident’s room.
The Cobourg Fire Department has since given the all-clear, and Northumberland County staff have completed an assessment of the damage. While the fire was contained to a single room, smoke and water damage required the closure of two additional resident rooms on the main floor. Below this, two resident rooms, a nurse’s station, and two office spaces have also been decommissioned.
Most residents have returned to their rooms, but seven remain displaced. Six have been relocated within the facility, while staff are working with Ontario Health atHome to secure an alternate placement for the seventh. Restoration work is expected to take several weeks, though regular visiting hours will resume at 7 a.m. on Sunday.
“I want to thank our tremendous staff at the Golden Plough Lodge for their unwavering professionalism and quick action,” said Glenn Dees, Northumberland County’s Director of Health and Human Services. “Their dedication ensures our home remains a safe and supportive environment.”
Dees also expressed gratitude to the Northumberland County team, Northumberland Hills Hospital, and other partners for their rapid response. He praised first responders for their expertise in ensuring the safety of residents and staff.
Officials will provide further updates as restoration progresses.
