The changing seasons mean another edition of Presqu’ile Provincial Park’s Warblers and Whimbrels weekend.
Birdwatchers and nature lovers will once again be flocking to Presqu’ile for this popular event, taking place over the Victoria Day long-weekend. The event celebrates the return of spring migrants, from brightly coloured warblers to elegant Whimbrels as they make a vital stopover at the park during their journey north.
Thanks to Presqu’ile’s unique position along Lake Ontario and its mix of forest, wetland and shoreline habitats, the park is a renowned migration hotspot, offering visitors a rare chance to observe dozens of bird species up-close. Whether you’re a seasoned birder or simply curious about nature, May is the perfect time to experience the sights and sounds of migration in full swing.
Friends of Presqu’ile spokesperson Bev Cook says the May long-weekend event celebrates the migration of smaller birds.
Cook says it’s a wonderful opportunity to see the birds and get some hands-on learning.
If you’ve have binoculars, Cook says bring them because viewing conditions are excellent.
Regardless of skill level and interest, Cook says Warblers and Whimbrels weekend has something for everyone.
The Lighthouse Interpretive Centre will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. with displays and volunteers on hand.
The Friends of Presqu’ile Gift Shop will be open both days. There’s also a fundraising barbecue lunch both days from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
A detailed schedule of events and demonstrations will be posted on social media and around the park. Check the Calendar of Events on the Friends’ website for details.
