Bancroft OPP say an investigation is continuing after a suspected drowning in the Faraday Lake area.
According to police, emergency crews were dispatched to Faraday Lake on Monday, April 28, 2025, shortly after 10:30 a.m. in response to reports of a capsized canoe.
When emergency crews arrived on scene, police said there was one occupant of the canoe who was unaccounted for.
Two other men had safely made it to shore, reported OPP.
The OPP’s underwater search and recovery unit did find a body and later confirmed it was the occupant of the canoe, who has been identified as a 19-year-old Scarborough man, said police.
OPP said the individual was not wearing a life jacket and is echoing the call for people to always wear a PFD (personal flotation device) or life jacket when on the water.
Police are also reminding residents taking part in recreational activities that the water is still cold, making it more challenging if one falls in.
No other details have been released by police.
