Port Hope and Cobourg police say they’ve seized about 50 grams of suspected illicit fentanyl after a Cobourg man was arrested on the strength of an outstanding warrant related to an alleged shoplifting offence.
The Port Hope Police Service issued a release about the “significant fentanyl seizure” on Friday, May 2, 2025, saying the accused 55-year-old Cobourg man was arrested with help from the Cobourg Police Service.
Following the arrest, police said the accused was transported to the Port Hope station, where a search allegedly turned up about 50 grams of suspected fentanyl.
As a result of the investigation, police said Ricky Watt was charged with theft under $5,000 (shoplifting), five counts of breach of probation, two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking, and possession of property obtained by crime.
None of these charges have been proven in court. The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing, reported police, on Friday.
